It’s the Road to Wrestlemania in WWE, and I’m here to share my thoughts and predictions on the upcoming Royal Rumble on January 26, 2014.
A lot of poor booking and creative storyline busts have plagued the WWE for about six months now. Whether it’s holding back talent like Dolph Ziggler, Wade Barrett, or the Usos, or being so repetitive and boring with John “Super” Cena and Randy Orton.
The good news for the fans, though, is that storylines finally seem to be making sense and timing up perfectly for Wrestlemania XXX.
Finally, the hottest star in the WWE, Daniel Bryan, is back in the spotlight after this week’s Raw where he turned on Bray Wyatt inside of a steel cage. When this happened, the crowd went from a kindergarten class during nap time to this….
The Shield is beginning to really show signs of disbandment, which is going to be great for the singles division because I believe that all three provide great in-ring skill and entertainment, especially Roman Reigns.
Although the creative team at WWE has been rumored to have a lot of love for Roman Reigns, I don’t believe he’s ready for any kind of main event at Wrestlemania, but will definitely be a big part of it. He hasn’t gotten enough push yet as a singles wrestler to perform as a main eventer.
On to the predictions:
Big Show vs Brock Lesnar (verified)
This match will be better than people think, but I feel like they wasted a good opportunity to have Brock wrestle someone he hasn’t before. We’ve all seen this match, and, well, it’s old news. As for the Big New Years Baby, err, Big Show, how can anyone really take him seriously after all that’s happened with him in the past three months?
Winner: Brock Lesnar with a Big F5
Randy Orton vs. John Cena (verified) (title match)
Speaking of seeing the same old song and dance, when will this fued end? And when will they stop dragging poor Mr. Cena into the mix every time these two get into it. This will be a decent match, but meh…
Winner: Randy Orton with a sneaky RKO
Rumor has it that CM Punk will be wrestling Triple H at Wrestlemania XXX, so as far as his inclusion in the Royal Rumble, I’m thinking he might just be in the Rumble match.
I’d have to assume we’ll see perhaps the Divas title and/or the Intercontinental title on the line, as well as the tag team titles. But with recent heat on Ryback, I’m not sure that RybAxel will get the shot at the tag belts. Perhaps the Usos, or the All-Americans will get a shot, but I think the Brotherhood holds on until Elimnation Chamber.
I’m actually very excited for the rumble match, but I also think it’s fairly easy to predict the ending. The WWE cannot hide from the fact that fans want Daniel Bryan as the champion, and I think they’re finally going to give in.
The final four that will remain in the Rumble match will most likely be Batista, Roman Reigns, CM Punk, and Daniel Bryan. I also believe that Roman Reigns will enter somewhere around 20 and go on an absolute elimination tear. This will be his big coming out party as a dominant body. I also think he eliminates one, or both of the other members of the Shield.
Winner: Daniel Bryan
The YES! man will finally get his chance at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestlemania, on “the biggest stage of them all.” This match will probably be against Brock Lesnar, after he wins the championship at Elimination Chamber. I can’t see the WWE bringing Lesnar back without involving him at a more high-profile level. Main eventing Wrestlemania XXX sounds about right. The Beard vs The Beast.
This may be the most exciting part about the Royal Rumble. The mystery, the anticipation, the countdown, and of course, the returns.
The most obvious return is Batista, who we know will be in the match.
Here’s a list of probable returns:
2. Rob Van Dam
4. Chris Jericho
5. Evan Bourne
And here’s a list of less probable, but possible returns:
1. Jake “The Snake” Roberts
2. Diamond Dallas Page
3. Ultimate Warrior
4. Jeff Hardy
5. Stone Cold Steve Austin
The second list of people are possible, but less likely than the first list. I think there is almost no doubt that Christian and Sheamus will be returning. I think RVD will be more likely to return than Jericho, but I believe all five of those guys may return.
The Royal Rumble should be a pretty exciting pay-per-view. Whether or not my predictions will be correct or not, I believe the WWE is heading in a positive direction creatively heading into Wrestlemania XXX.
